A slightly different direction to 80

I haven’t been able to log much recently, as I was preparing for a trip to the US(work related).  However, I have gotten tired of groups not checking to see if their healer(me) is behind them before pulling the next group of mobs, which usually results in me not fully utilising the refreshing drink i’m currently consuming and having to reach the inappropriately geared and overconfident tank before he’s pummelled to his doom by a horde of trash mobs.

So i’ve rolled a deathknight, and am actually finding the deathknight class mechanics interesting to play with. Instead of having a single limited resource that cannot be effectively regenerated unless you’ve specced deep into the prot tree, you have what typically amounts to a Settlers of Catan 2 level resource system, your runes are the resource cards of the Death, which are spent in different combinations to generate runic power (Victory points in Settlers of Catan)

From what I have read, the deathknight is supposedly able to tank or dps in all 3 talent trees, with tanking talents spread across all 3 talent trees. It is quite a change from the paladin talents, with Holy= healing tree, Prot=tanking tree,  and Retribution=DPS tree.

So would the deathknight be my new main? I’m not sure, but as long as i’m having fun with it playing solo or in groups (Tanking in hellfire ramparts is quite fun) I’ll be playing as Zaevi the DK.

Gnomeregan and various thoughts.

Just finished Gnomeregan for the first time since 2005 and had a couple of thoughts:

I am Tank! : I have not tanked an instance my level before, so it came as a surprise how easy I could hold aggro with a skill sequence of : Hand Of Reckoning -> Judgement -> Consecration. I guess having Righteous Fury activated helps, and so does tanking with a sword and board (though it was with a rather outdated green 13.9dps sword though). I never really had trouble until reaching the last boss in the instance: MekengineerMek. Call me new, but I didn’t understand why this particular boss was immune (literally the word “immune” popping up over his head)  to my taunts and went straight for the rogue. I also remembered from my shaman days in 2005 that the bombs were extremely devastating (See those faces on pillars? They pop out from there and make a beeline to your party), yet we managed to burn Mekengineer down so quick those bombs hardly made a dent on our hp.

Gnomeregan done!

Special Thanks : To our healer Palamanden from Bloodhoof(yeap, it’s a random PUG, i’m starting to think that WoW players in general are actually fairly competent).  He does have gear i thought paladins normally shouldn’t take though, mp5 cloth and leather gear, though I definitely had no complaints with his healing, and that throughout the entire run, he never dropped below 75% mana. If I recall correctly, he had 2053 mp and was at level 30.
